iconThe title speaks for itself. This is one fun playlist.

(November 2, 2009)

From iTunes' Top Tunes and Albums and New Releases: I found walkables and runnables by Pearl Jam, Rod Stewart, and Donora.

Further down our Tunes List you'll find tracks by Michael Jackson, and The Flaming Lips.

Peter Andersson posted a new list. See Peter's Picks below.

Best of running! --Dr. Bob

Chris Salmon, of the Online Guardian (guardian.co.uk), wrote very kindly about JogTunes and Cadence (the new iPhone/Touch app). Here's the link. Here's a quote: "You might imagine that an application which can measure the BPM of any song in your computer's iTunes music library would be aimed at budding DJs looking to beat-match their mixes. But, the Cadence App (cadenceapp.com) is actually designed to help joggers find music which fits their pace. Their free desktop app (currently Mac-only, but Windows coming soon), calculates the BPM of your entire collection. Then, you can use their intuitive iPhone app (£1.79) to select a particular BPM and it'll play music of that tempo. Music-loving runners should also give jogtunes.com a look, for its BPM-themed playlists and, particularly, the free 45-minute podcast which is designed to soundtrack a workout, complete with warm-up tracks, full-scale sprints and cool-down tunes. Just downloading it gives you a certain glow of healthy smugness."

The JogTunes Indie Podcast

The indie music, BPM-sequenced podcast that's meant for working out exactly to the beat. Dr. Bob presents sequenced music with voice-over BPM and artist information. Here's the latest episode:

Episode #42 (30 Minutes) - Alexx Calise - She Rocks! - Dr. Bob presents the music of singer/songwriter/guitarist Alexx Calise. Also on the show: artists David Packouz, GroundSound, Sorin, Yamasaki, and B.D. Lenz.

Peter Andersson is our intrepid veteran contributor and advisor from Eksjo, Sweden. An avid BPM runner and collector of great running songs, Peter publishes a website offering an impressive annotated list of his personally tested tunes.

Peter posted his "tested" list for October and from that list I picked:
  • Donora's "Weeken Tongue", running at 168,
  • Darryl Worley's "Tennessee River Run", running at 182,
  • and
  • "Alright for an Hour" by Rod Stewart with a BPM of 177,
  • Please support our website and podcast. You can donate here. A PayPal account is not required.

The Mission of the JogTunes Group is to promote the unique blend of music and exercise that involves matching the tempo of music to the pace of the workout. We call this activity music-paced exercise. Many people have independently found that working out exactly to the beat is inspiring, motivating, and fun. We're convinced that, as people who don't stay fit discover the enjoyment of music-paced exercise, they will be more likely to start working out and enjoying the benefits of regular exercise.

We're also dedicated to the promotion of the great artists who are producing the huge panoply of indie music. Many people work out to music. We believe that our indie music listings and music-paced workout podcast provide perfect opportunities for people to discover these new artists.
We welcome your comments, suggestions, and music playlists.
