What's your preference?
Almost all workout disciplines involve a pace. Estimated pace ranges in steps per minute:
  • Walk calmly or briskly: 90 - 140
  • Jog: 140 - 150
  • Run: 150 - 190
Elliptical, stairmaster, aqua-exercise, indoor cycling and spinning, swimming, cardio, aerobics, and other GYM activities all run the gamut from about 80 to 200 beats per minute. Here's more info:

Pick your pace.
We're not talking about your target heart rate here. Although THR is an important exercise parameter, BPM (beats per minute), in music-paced exercise, generally refers to the tempo of a tune that you can match with your workout pace. We can help you find your personal BPM ranges:

(July 2, 2008) I've been on a 2 week vacation and just got back to adding new tracks to our Tunes List. You'll find an eclectic list of 20 new tunes including 3 from Peter Andersson, our veteran contributor. His picks include tunes by Nickelback, The B-52's, and Skew Siskin. You've got to read his comments on Skew Siskin's tune, Shake Me. It can be found on his website in his top 50 list (it's #24).

My latest podcast episode is up and running. It's #22 and entitled "Rockin' in the 150s." Check it out on our Podcast Page. You can subscribe to my podcast on iTunes and many other podcast players. I would greatly appreciate your impressions of this episode. For a change of pace, all the tunes are rock with BPMs between 150 and 159. Please send your comments to comments at jogtunes.com.

Many thanks to listeners who've purchased the talk-free Special Edition tracks from my website store. Please consider supporting the show by purchasing this offer (just $5.00). Meanwhile, enjoy the music and and your favorite BPM paced fitness workouts. --Dr. Bob

On June 24, 2008, the What a Wonderful Life blog post cited a womenshealthmag.com article, "13 ways to stay on track and lose weight", which gave a shout out to JogTunes:

"So thank God for jogtunes.com" is followed by a great description of our playlist offering and our emphasis on working out to the beat. -- Thanks to Riki Setya Ramdhani for posting the article.

And from GreenDaily's website, this post on 4/23/08:

JogTunes has a cool feature: it lists the times and the running pace in beats per minute (BPM) for each song. For example, a faster-paced song, like Billy Idol's "Dancing With Myself," is a whopping 170 BPM, whereas Maroon 5's "This Love" is a calmer 94 BPM. -- Ellen Slatery

Out of Australia comes run2rhythm, a unique running music website and podcast. The music is specially composed and performed to match the rhythm of your running pace.

And from the Netherlands comes TrainingWithTheStars.com, a BPM oriented website and podcast featuring top athletes and running to music. Here's the English explanation. The language may be Dutch but the music and the beat are universal.
