So what is
the JogTunesIndie
Podcast?
It’s
a 30 to 45 minute
podcast that must
be “run to.”
By that we mean it’s
intended to be listened
to while you’re
running. Not that
you can’t listen
while driving or sitting
in your living room.
It’s just that
the songs are selected
and sequenced solely
for running exactly
to the beat of the
music. The podcast
plays independent
music with tempos
that match most runners’
cadences. It begins
with a brief introduction
and a warm-up tune
in the 150-160 BPM
range. This is followed
by a sequenced series
of runnable tunes
that begins in the
160-170 range and
usually peaks with
tunes in the BPM range
of 170-180. The sequence
slows back down to
a cool-down in the
150-160 range. Dr.
Bob, the founder of
jogTunes.com and JogTunesIndie.com
is the podcaster.
He provides introductions
to the songs along
with the BPM details.
Music-Paced
Running and jogTunes.com
We call this whole
gig music-paced running.
We introduced the
concept at our sibling
website, jogTunes.com,
where we list record
label artists’
tunes by BPM and provide
30 to 60 minute playlists.
All of the tunes and
playlists have links
to the iTunes Music
Store.
JogTunesIndie.com
At JogTunesIndie we
continue to list songs
for music-paced running
that are selected
according to their
BPMs. Choosing independent
music allows us to
play the music on
our podcast as well
as promote independent
artists. We use the
Podsafe
Music Network
as our primary source
because it offers
a vast collection
of great indie music
and we are guaranteed
that the music is
podsafe (royalty free).
The other music resources
are presented to help
users purchase the
songs. When the PMN
opens their purchasing
option, many of the
songs will be available
there.
Who's Dr.
Bob?
Dr. Bob is
a retired physician
living in Utah. Several
years ago he realized
that it's more fun
running to the exact
beat of his favorite
songs. The problem
was finding songs
that matched his cadence.
He learned that the
only way to determine
the beats-per-minute
of songs in his jazz
collection was to
calculate them himself,
"by hand", using a
BPM calculator program.
Automated BPM calculators
were not accurate
enough, especially
when there is no strong
bass beat in a song.
He then realized that
other runners may
also enjoy what he
calls music-paced
running. Having some
extra time as a retiree,
Dr. Bob is able to
save people lots of
time and work by finding
the runnable songs
and posting them on
the Internet on a
site (named by his
wife) called jogTunes.com.
The site has doubled
its daily visitors
over the past year
and a half and has
been accessed by runners
as far away as China,
Australia, New Zealand
and Japan.
A podcast was a logical
next step in bringing
runnable music to
the masses. To avoid
the extraordinary
expense of paying
royalties and to promote
independent artists,
Dr. Bob developed
this website and the
JogTunesIndie Podcast.
Dr. Bob hopes you
find music-paced running
as enjoyable, exhilarating,
and motivating as
he has. Please feel
free to offer suggestions,
comments, and new
songs for us to add
to the podcast.
You can send them
by email to comments@jogtunes.com
and we will post them
on the podcast
page.
